Falls are one of the leading causes of injury, hospitalization, and loss of independence among aging adults and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This course participants with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to recognize fall risk factors, prevent injuries, and respond appropriately when falls occur. Participants will explore the physical, cognitive, medical, and environmental factors that contribute to fall risk, including muscle weakness, vision impairment, medication effects, chronic conditions, and the unique vulnerabilities associated with aging and IDD populations. By the end of this training, participants will have a deeper understanding of how falls occur, why they can have life-altering consequences, and how proactive prevention strategies can protect safety, dignity, and quality of life for the individuals they support.
