]This is part two of a 4-part series. In this session, Understanding Behavior, we will cover behavior basics, or Behavior 101 if you will. The information will not be provided with a particular age group or population in mind. Rather, it will be a foundational understanding of all things behavior. Later, with this knowledge, your teams will be better equipped to determine the strategies best applied to a particular age group or specific population to proactively work with members to provide excellent person-centered care with the individual needs of each member in mind.

This is part three of a 4-part series. In this session, Proactive and Reactive Strategies for Managing Behaviors, we will dive into proactive prevention strategies to minimize the risks of behaviors occurring, as well as how to de-escalate behaviors should they arise, or what we’ll call reactive strategies. When you finish Part 3, you’ll have a handful of effective and evidence-based behavior strategies you can share with your team to ensure the quality of care that all members deserve.

This is part four of a 4-part series. In this session, Member Rights/Abuse and Neglect, we will discuss what a member’s rights are, as well as the possible causes of adult/elder abuse, warning signs, characteristics of abusers, and self-neglect. We’ll also cover the process and requirements of reporting.

Participants will learn the philosophy of teaching/skill building as it applies to the individuals we support, the assessment process, and the parts of a skill plan.  Participants will learn how to create a task analysis to use on the job site as well as various teaching techniques and strategies.

Description: As a care-provider, it is important to understand the importance of maintaining your member’s skin health to prevent complications such as pressure ulcers, infections, and other skin injuries. In this course, we will cover the basics of skin anatomy, the risk factors that make a person at increased risk for skin injuries, as well as prevention strategies to maintain skin integrity.

The primary goal of this course is to teach you how to eliminate common work-related risks that lead to dangerous slips, trips and falls. You will learn how to set preventative measures that reduce the likelihood of fall accidents that may result in strains, sprains or death.

Quitting smoking is a difficult and discouraging road for many people. As health and human services professionals, we’re on the front lines of people’s choices and habits, and the effects they have on people’s health. The information we’re able to share, and the attitude with which we convey it, can make the difference to a patient or client struggling with a health issue. No matter what area of health and human services realm we work in, we’ll almost certainly have patients or clients who smoke and many who may be trying to quit smoking. What an impact we can have, and what an encouragement we can be. This also applies if you’re the one struggling with a smoking addiction. You may be trying not to think about the harm that cigarettes are causing you because you don’t feel like you’ll ever succeed at quitting. For your own healthier life, or for the lives of those you serve, let’s learn about some real, practical steps that people can take to quit smoking for good!
