In this course, you will hear from the Chief of Police in Goodyear, Arizona about the Blue Envelope Program. The Blue Envelope Program is an initiative to improve interactions between law enforcement officers and individuals with autism or other communication challenges during traffic stops or similar encounters. The program uses a specially marked blue envelope that contains essential documents, such as a driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance card, along with information about the driver’s communication preferences and needs. The program aims to reduce misunderstandings, de-escalate potentially stressful situations, and promote safety and mutual understanding.
In this course, we will learn about Cortical Visual Impairment, or CVI as it is commonly called. We will learn the cause of CVI and the implications CVI has on an individual’s visual responses. We will also discuss the differences between eye conditions, vision impairment, and legal blindness.
Description: By the end of today’s course, you’ll have a better understanding of various types of visual supports, like First/Then, visual schedules and choice boards. Of course we’ll also cover other effective, evidence-based teaching strategies like work systems, shaping and chaining, task analysis, and prompting procedures. We will start right at the beginning though, with the principles of reinforcement, a cornerstone in effective teaching that complement each and every other effective strategy.
