This course introduces participants to the four division-eligible developmental disabilities including Autism/Autism spectrum disorder, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and "At Risk" categories. This course meets the Arizona ADH requirements for Intro to the Four Developmental Disabilities.

The need to communicate with our fellow human beings is necessary.  But good communication can be tricky. Communicating well involves understanding the fundamental skills of effective communication and some practice.  Effective communication in healthcare and human services settings increases client satisfaction, client safety, team satisfaction and lowers malpractice risk. In this course, Danny Silk, MSW will teach you how to be an effective communicator and encourage you to think of communication as more than an attempt to be right or in control. When we seek to understand, we change the dynamic from fear and anxiety to connection and unity.

NEW!! This course discusses the rights of medication administration, how the provider can assist with medication administration and medication reminders. It also covers the following topics: oxygen therapy, colostomy care, g-tube feeding, and Do Not Resuscitate Orders (DNR).

Discutiremos estrategias basadas en evidencia para ayudar a esta población a lograr una mejor calidad de vida a través de enfoques integrales, centrados en la persona y multidisciplinarios, al mismo tiempo que destacamos la sensibilidad cultural, las consideraciones éticas y los derechos legales.

En este curso, discutiremos la nutrición básica y los seis nutrientes esenciales que son importantes para el cuerpo. Analizaremos las pautas de Mi Plato del USDA y cómo ayudar a los miembros a satisfacer sus necesidades de nutrición e hidratación.

DCW: Aging and Physical Disabilities   DCW: Aging and Physical Disabilities AHCCCS has instituted training and testing requirements for Direct Care Workers (DCW) who provide direct care services (Attendant Care, Personal Care and Homemaker) to Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) members residing in their own home. Beginning October 1, 2012, all AHCCCS provider agencies of direct care services must utilize DCWs who have passed the required competency tests within 90 days of hire unless otherwise exempt from the training and testing requirements (e.g. Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Certified Nurse Aide). The testing records are portable or transferable from one employer to another. DCWs do not have to pass the tests again unless they have experienced a lapse from working in the direct care field for a minimum of two years. ALL CHAPTERS FOR MODULE TWO (Aging and Physical Disabilities) ARE REQUIRED BEFORE TAKING THE CHALLENGE TEST and meets the requirements for Level 2 DD.  In order to receive your certification of completion, you must also take and pass the written exam and skills.   DCW Aging and Physical Disabilities Topics Major Organ System  Behavioral and Emotional Conditions  Personal Care Transfers and Positioning Activity Planning Dementia-specific Care Grief and End of Life Basic Caregiver Skills. Both courses need to purchased and completed with APT.

In this course, you will learn about how pain affects the elderly and common causes and types of pain in the elderly.  We will also discuss why pain may not be fully managed for elderly members and how you can help members cope with pain.

This introductory class reviews how to begin working with a new member before working on program goals. The course serves as a refresher on how to build positive relationships, gain instructional control, and assess for pre-requisite attending skills. This course is recommended for providers working with members of all ages for continuing education.

Providing care for another individual is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  It takes knowledge, empathy, compassion, strength, and much more.  In this training, we will show you the proper ways to provide personal care and how to provide care with dignity and respect.  Topics include: communication, infection control, caregiver code of conduct, personal choice, skin anatomy, oral care, bathing and more.

In this course, you will learn about the basics of Pivotal Response Training. You will learn how implementation of this intervention can complement a learner’s play and social activities, infusing it with the attention to pivotal skills, and the right dose of structure to make “work feel like play and play actually be instructional” to the development of communication, language, play, and social behaviors. Implementing PRT strategies can help a learner develop confidence and motivation. Offering choices, integrating preferred interests, simplifying and modifying tasks, reinforcing attempts, and providing natural and contingent reinforcement are beneficial procedures for motivation.
