This course is designed to give you a look at a few of the foundations of the Division of Developmental Disabilities, as well as an overview of each qualifying disability category.   At the end of this session, you will be able to: •             Describe person centered approaches and social role valorization •             Define and identify eligibility for DDD services •             Discriminate between the 4 qualifying disability categories  

 This course provides information about hospice and the philosophy behind it.  We will also cover what services are generally provided, palliative care, non-drug pain relief, end of life care, and how to care of yourself as the caregiver.

This course introduces participants to the four division-eligible developmental disabilities including Autism/Autism spectrum disorder, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and "At Risk" categories. This course meets the Arizona ADH requirements for Intro to the Four Developmental Disabilities.

Arizona Administrative Code r6-6-901, commonly known as Article 9, is an Arizona law. This law relates to how the Divisions of Developmental Disabilities will proactively and positively support people's positive and adaptive behavior. This course includes a clear definition of techniques that are prohibited from use at any time, techniques that require a division approved behavior plan and/or techniques that require no prior approval. Course taught by a certified Article 9 Instructor. Duration - Approximately 3 Hours  This certificate is valid for 3 years. Course Content for Article 9: Historical Information, Confidentiality, Positive Behavior Supports, Respect, Dignity, and Positive Interactions with Members, Consent, Client Rights, Abuse and Neglect, Proactive Strategies, PRC/HRC Behavior Building Plans, Prohibitions, Emergency Measures, Reporting, Sanctions We recommend taking this course on a laptop or tablet.

Communicating well involves understanding the fundamental skills of effective communication and some practice.  Effective communication in healthcare and human services settings increases client satisfaction, client safety, team satisfaction and lowers malpractice risk. In this course, Danny Silk, MSW will teach you how to be an effective communicator and encourage you to think of communication as more than an attempt to be right or in control. When we seek to understand, we change the dynamic from fear and anxiety to connection and unity.

NEW!! This course discusses the rights of medication administration, how the provider can assist with medication administration and medication reminders. It also covers the following topics: oxygen therapy, colostomy care, g-tube feeding, and Do Not Resuscitate Orders (DNR).

Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health challenge, how to listen non-judgmentally and give reassurance to a person who may be experiencing a mental health challenge, and how to refer a person to the appropriate professional support and services.  When you use the skills you learn in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), you are the first line of support for a person in need.  You are there to help them feel less distressed and you can be a vital source in helping them seek further assistance.  With an accurate view of mental health challenges, and using a strengths-based holistic perspective, you can help others to help themselves. You can also be an advocate, empower your community, and improve self-care.  As a Mental Health First Aider, you can be the one to make a difference in the life of someone with a mental health challenge.  Your actions can be a first step in someone’s recovery journey.This course is 6 hours and will satisfy the required CEU hours for the Direct Care Worker requirement for the year (6 CEUs).

DCW: Aging and Physical Disabilities   DCW: Aging and Physical Disabilities AHCCCS has instituted training and testing requirements for Direct Care Workers (DCW) who provide direct care services (Attendant Care, Personal Care and Homemaker) to Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) members residing in their own home. Beginning October 1, 2012, all AHCCCS provider agencies of direct care services must utilize DCWs who have passed the required competency tests within 90 days of hire unless otherwise exempt from the training and testing requirements (e.g. Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Certified Nurse Aide). The testing records are portable or transferable from one employer to another. DCWs do not have to pass the tests again unless they have experienced a lapse from working in the direct care field for a minimum of two years. ALL CHAPTERS FOR MODULE TWO (Aging and Physical Disabilities) ARE REQUIRED BEFORE TAKING THE CHALLENGE TEST and meets the requirements for Level 2 DD.  In order to receive your certification of completion, you must also take and pass the written exam and skills.   DCW Aging and Physical Disabilities Topics Major Organ System  Behavioral and Emotional Conditions  Personal Care Transfers and Positioning Activity Planning Dementia-specific Care Grief and End of Life Basic Caregiver Skills.
