AHCCCS has instituted training and testing requirements for Direct Care Workers (DCW) who provide direct care services (Attendant Care, Personal Care and Homemaker) to Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) members residing in their own home. Beginning October 1, 2012, all AHCCCS provider agencies of direct care services must utilize DCWs who have passed the required competency tests within 90 days of hire unless otherwise exempt from the training and testing requirements (e.g. Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Certified Nurse Aide). The testing records are portable or transferable from one employer to another. DCWs do not have to pass the tests again unless they have experienced a lapse from working in the direct care field for a minimum of two years. ALL CHAPTERS FOR MODULE ONE (FUNDAMENTALS) ARE REQUIRED BEFORE TAKING THE CHALLENGE TEST and meets the requirements for Level 1 Fundamentals. In order to receive your certification of completion, you must also take and pass the written exam and skills.
In this course, you will learn about how pain affects the elderly and common causes and types of pain in the elderly. We will also discuss why pain may not be fully managed for elderly members and how you can help members cope with pain.
This introductory class reviews how to begin working with a new member before working on program goals. The course serves as a refresher on how to build positive relationships, gain instructional control, and assess for pre-requisite attending skills. This course is recommended for providers working with members of all ages for continuing education.

In this training, we will show you the proper ways to provide personal care and how to provide care with dignity and respect. Topics include: communication, infection control, caregiver code of conduct, personal choice, skin anatomy, oral care, bathing and more.
In this course, you will learn about the basics of Pivotal Response Training. You will learn how implementation of this intervention can complement a learner’s play and social activities, infusing it with the attention to pivotal skills, and the right dose of structure to make “work feel like play and play actually be instructional” to the development of communication, language, play, and social behaviors. Implementing PRT strategies can help a learner develop confidence and motivation. Offering choices, integrating preferred interests, simplifying and modifying tasks, reinforcing attempts, and providing natural and contingent reinforcement are beneficial procedures for motivation.

It’s a set of research-based practices used to reduce challenging behavior while improving quality of life. The training model educates DSPs and caregivers on skills, tools, and resources they can use to assist in the behavior change process. This often leads to an improved environment for the individual receiving DDD services.
In order to take the ZOOM PBS class, you must agree that you will: 1. Print the packet prior to the class (you must show trainer the packet on zoom) 2. Prevention and Support is a mandatory course that will focus on positive relationships, positive behavioral support, proactive strategies and how to identify a true behavioral emergency. Students will also learn how to calmly respond and support individuals with challenging behaviors. Students will learn which emergency physical intervention techniques to use when a behavioral and/or physical emergency is in progress. This course is required for all staff working in DDD, care homes and day programs.Duration - 9 Hours (8 Hours for Training and 1 Hour for Lunch)This certification is valid for 3 years.Prevention and Support training involves physical techniques that will require the participants to participate in some strenuous activity. This course is not recommended to individuals with these certain physical conditions, but not limited to, knee injuries, back injuries, pregnancy, spinal cord injuries, inability to use any body part normally. Required Clothing for Prevention and Support: Closed toed shoes. NO HEELS tennis shoes are recommended.Clothing that is comfortable to move around in. (i.e. Jogging pants, Yoga pants, leggings, jeans NO DRESSES OR SKIRTS)
This course will provide you with an overview of PBS so that you are better equipped to analyze a member’s behavior, understand the function of their behavior, and to develop and implement a PBS plan.
